Lucky for us we have a tactical genius as our manager... he has already planned to slot Emerson on the right keep Kudus on the left and draft in the tea lady for Fullkrug it cant go wrong can it.
The Good the Bad and the Ugly or more Apt one for me.. The money pit!
Yesterday's result was expected but still disappointing. Almost no fans would've gone into the London Stadium or turned on the TV and sat there expecting West Ham to win, but what I would've loved to have seen, would've been a bit of personality, a bit of passion even when losing.
In the first few minutes, we had an opening chance that Bowen played across the box, but Paqueta missed.
The first goal was conceded by poor defending, but we followed that up with some enthusiasm, Kudus hit the post nearly equalising, but from there, it all went wrong.
It was as simple as 1,2,3. Suddenly, out of nowhere, we found ourselves conceding three goals in 14 minutes, leaving us three down at the break with nothing to hope for in the second half. Todibo and Fullkrug were introduced at half-time, which didn't make much sense really... why bring on a centre back at 3 down? Why would we not start Todibo if we were playing a 3/5 back-formation?
The remainder of the match was just appalling, with constant loss of the ball and gifting Liverpool chances. Areola made a few great saves, which kept it from being six or seven, but on another day, it could've been more brutal than it already was.
After Lopetegui's predictable post-match press conference in saying, "We need to improve" or "We have to do better", the anger continued on social media until we finally got an update on where the board stands in regards to the manager.
It appears to be that we are back with the three-game scenario yet again! One of which David Moyes went through many times, the same goes for Lopetegui already. He survived last time by the skin of his teeth against Wolves; now he faces the 'pressure test' against Manchester City, Aston Villa and Fulham. It is comical that this is the way the club operates, in a bigger picture, what effects do these three games have? If we lose two and draw one, is that good enough?
It seems to be that we are delaying the inevitable. You can't have stability in the club if the person at the wheel isn't one the owners trust, and they clearly do not trust him as they're constantly contemplating and on the fence about whether he was the right appointment or not.
The active search for other managers reeks of a lack of faith in Lopetegui.
Hi all , back after a long absence. Happy mew year to all and hope you had a great Christmas. So frustrated with how the season is going. Thankfully there are worse teams than us. Whats happens now - do the board stick with JLOP and hope we just keep our heads above water or look to replace him? Historically they stick with the managers until end of season but personally wish we would replace him as he is tactically inept.
West Ham: Areola, Wan-Bissaka, Coufal, Mavropanos, Kilman, Emerson, Álvarez, Paquetá, Soler, Kudus, Bowen ©
Subs: Foderingham (GK), Cresswell, Scarles, Todibo, L. Guilherme, Irving, Summerville, Füllkrug, Ings
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Jones, Salah, Gakpo, Diaz
Substitutes: Kelleher, Quansah, Tsimikas, Endo, McConnell, Elliott, Nunez, Jota, Danns
A 1-0 win against Southampton perhaps may not have been the easiest to watch, but three points are what was achieved at the end of the day.
However, this came with a cost. Two first-half substitutions saw Max Kilman exit the pitch clutching his shoulder, as well as Fabianski being carried off the pitch in a stretcher. While in the second half, Carlos Soler came off with a suspected knee injury.
The extent of the injuries are currently unknown, but Fabianski is forced out of the Liverpool game with the FA concussion rule coming into place.
Assuming that Max Kilman isn't able to recover in time, we would most likely see ourselves lining up with the triangle of Mavropanos, Todibo and Areola. I also noticed that against Brighton in the 1-1 draw, Alvarez started to drop back into defence and play more of a sweeper esc role, I'd guess that we'd use the same tactic against Liverpool, yet... that's where we run into further issues.
In addition to the injuries sustained, Soucek and Guido Rodriguez find themselves suspended for the Liverpool match due to accumulating too many yellow cards, therefore meaning, if the injury rumours about Soler are true, we will have Alvarez, Paqueta and Irving as our midfield for the match...
Now, not to say that it's a poor midfield, but it are options that Lopetegui hasn't exactly used together before, his utility of Soucek has helped him greatly this season. However, I guess if there was a game he had to serve a ban for, you'd probably want it to be this one.
With the silly season we are currently in, who knows what can happen. We're undefeated in four, we're 9 points off the drop, but we're also then 6 points off Europe, 1 point above Manchester United and on the same points as Spurs.
Admittedly, our next three matches will really show us the levels of this squad. Liverpool at home tomorrow and then two away games against City and Villa in the cup.
Anything can happen against City currently, 1 win in the last 13 so my expectations for the match are clueless, then a game against Villa in the cup, a match where a win may not seem so significant due to it being such an early round, but one that could perhaps enlighten fans and give us something to look forward to.
A season of chaos already, and with the January window approaching, I can't wait to see the havoc we cause! I'll be counting and noting the hundreds of players we're inevitably linked to.
Play a few kids because we have a lot of the 1st team out Souchek and Guido are suspended Killman is out with a shoulder injury and to cap it all Anthony Taylor is referee whats he got to lose with most of his defenders out, but some good news Paquetas Back!
So who goes - Who Stays?? Think that Kudos will go, so will the Hearthrug dont think he will be hard to replace! but Kudos that will be different gravy. Maybe they will try to get rid of Inngs but I cant see him leaving before the end of the season £115, 000 (what a ridiculous contract) on the wages he is on, this must not happen again really bad business. Don't think Antonio will play again this season, so will Guilerme get his chance? or be put out on loan absolutely criminal for a player who we paid all this money for, to be given just 3 premier team mins and be left on the bench, same goes for all our youngsters Louis Orford, Ollie Scarles, Keelan Casey, perhaps with all these injuries some of these kids will get the chances they deserve against Liverpool, because lets face it we aint gonna beat them even if all the team were fit. Rodriguez think he will go-he's to slow for the premiership but Mavrapanos will stay so will Soler Alvarez and Tobido wot do think???
