Potters Playstyle Gives Potential

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sun, 12/01/2025 - 00:25

A defeat on the pitch but a visual win is what we saw on Friday night against Aston Villa.

I've never seen such a dramatic change in playstyle in such a short period of time; it is utterly staggering to me that within two hours and one training session, Potter has managed to transform the team from what looked like headless chickens running around, to a controlled tempo and the players have an actual idea of where to pass the ball.

We were very unlucky to come away with being out of the cup, for the first half, we had total control, and the game was in free flow.

A counter-attack saw Fullkrug pull his hamstring, and to make things worse, Summerville was injured in the 35th minute, suffering an injury from a defensive tackle he made. Both players were crucial to the style of football Potter plays, but Summerville was mesmerising to watch. For the period before he'd gotten injured, he was causing havoc to Villa, and without the injuries, the game could've been a different outcome.

It is a shame that once those injuries were sustained, we were ultimately forced to use Ings and Coufal, now, if that doesn't scream the need for squad depth and signings, then I don't know what does.

Fullkrug and Summerville both received scans today for their injuries, the extent of the injuries should be released tomorrow.

The game was pretty much dead and buried in the second half due to the injuries and the referee. It was criminal to give that as a corner, one of the worst decisions I've seen in recent times, and not only did they score it, but they also had an offside player involved.

Due to that goal and our lacklustre replacement striker, the momentum swing went Villa's way, who quickly grabbed a second, sealing the game and sending us back home but with positive signs.

Despite the result, you have to say that the performance held identity and passion. We ran out of gas in the 70th minute or so, but considering the 'style' of football that we had been playing previously, that wasn't too much of a surprise to me. These players haven't been fighting under Lopetegui because they had no clue what they were doing, but under Potter, we saw a fight which we didn't give up on.

If this is what Potter can provide to the team within one training session, I look forward to seeing what he can implement in the future with many more. You do just have to sit here and wonder what Lopetegui was doing in the training ground. These players look completely different than what they have in the past weeks, and I'm honestly all for it. New manager, new energy.

Now we have the nervous wait till tomorrow to see the extent of the injuries sustained.

Okay everyone knows that we have to rectify this problem with our Gk's and that will probably be in the summer but who is out there? Fab sadly is now to old for the Prem yes he has some good games more so than Areola but father time is catching him so if we replace him and Areola not the answer then how about these two.
Caoimhín Kelleher from the bindippers and Ramsdale from Saints both young and upgrades on Areola for sure.....i shall put the tin hat on for one of those that no doubt will lead to WTF are you smoking!.

KWP get him from Saints now Sell Emerson and get a Striker in pension off Ings and get Aguered sold as well.... until we get a fit frontman i think we may be looking at playing a false 9.

Being cast as a villain and Potter warned to sleep with one eye open as this man is a backstabbing S.O.B. Well that is the story playing out in the media and pushed i have no doubt by Sullivans Cohorts.
He was brought in with Sullivan not wanting him but for once Kretinsky flexed his muscle and so he was hired Moyes hated his power being diminished and did everything he could to obstruct any signings made and refused to play most that he had no say in... he left and as has been mentioned Tim advised the board as in Sullivan that Loppy was not the man for the job but of course that was ignored it was a total disaster and again any players not of his choosing spent time on the bench or had a punch up at training with! And now that Sullivan was forced into taking action that he did not want to these rumours about Tim start again and he's next for the chopping block well that is very short sighted indeed and now we will see the truth as he has a manager who is used to working with a director of football and proper conversations can be had as to playing staff.
This will not be a quick fix but a manager who can work this way and have input into signings will be a much healthier relationship than those with Moyes and Loppy.
The conversation should really be what do we have to spend Potter told and he can then say i would like this player if affordable by the club and Tim can then say we probably can't afford but will try making a deal and if not here are some other options that may work...no parachuting of players in the manager has not had a clue were coming etc...just sensible conversations all round by adults and as for Sullivan just let the people the club employ to do a job do it and you just continue to shop in Red Square for more fashion tips!

FFS yes Potter

Imo the best choice from the possibilities. Mark Noble played a big part in sorting it. Time will tell of course, but I believe given time Potter will prove a good appointment. Lop was never going to work, he was just the cheap option by sullivan and co.

Potter has a decent squad to work with. Hopefully his style of play will bring the best out of kudus paqueta and summer ville and convince them the club is going forward.

Excited and optimistic with this.

FFS! Not Potter!

Yeah I guess deep down I knew he was gonna get in but it doesn't make my despondency any better. Reading other forums and FB sites, Potter, like Jlo, is not a popular choice. The only difference being is that options during the summer were more plentiful whereas Potter is only the best of a bad bunch and his missus sips gin and tonics at Mr Foggs Gin Club with Brady.. I'd go so far as to say the only choice actually because not for one moment do I believe Moyes, Carrick or Cooper were realistically ever in contention.
Talking of social media it does make me wonder if the board ever read these forums such as this one, KUMB or even West Ham Till I Die. I believe Moyes' wife is on record as saying that David doesn't, but surely the board must at least have heard whispers that Lopetegui was not a popular choice. His managerial record is a bit hit and miss but has a bit more pedigree than either Moyes OR Potter to be honest.
Which brings me to the point where fans of Potter bring up HIS history. "OH, he was a success at Brighton? Was he really? Only finished above us once in his three years there and that was one place and two points. And that was on a team and basis built by Hughton. The first time Brighton finished above us, and by some hefty margin, was the season he bloody left midway through and oh yeah, mustn't mention Chelsea, because that was just a blip. Well excuse me but I'm gonna mention Chelsea because during his tenure there he had a squad far superior that he's taking on here at West Ham and just like Moyes at moneybags Man Utd, he couldn't hack it.
So yeah, what a season its been so far, at this moment up there with the Cubishley/ Avram Grant scenarios for embarrassment and in my opinion is heading only one way. Avoiding relegation is NOT a given at this point in time and with Potter in charge I do not expect it to improve. I don't see the football improving from the dark Moyesball days and I'm nailing my colours to the mast by saying well done Sully and Co, because you have well and truly screwed up this time.
Right, Rant over, I'm off to go and buy my Leyton Orient shirt.

Big change from Potter already

This may upset you Burkie but watching the Potter press conference i have to say how refreshing to be able to understand every word that the manager said and that is a massive step forward already!

Will Tim Steiden follow Lopetegui

I feel sure that The little porno Dwarf is not finished with his sacking spree (Oh yes he is!) and will make himself WHU's saviour, by getting rid of Steiden and perish the thought that appointing Sloppy and Steiden was anything to do with him Sullivan make a mistake, Never! Then he will appoint another Director of Sport and stick his big nose into the running of our club which we all know that he is no good - and so should he by now. Same old Sully nothing will surprise us, seen him throw to many people under the bus and so it goes on, Next! meanwhile back at the pantomime this is only scene one

'Strange Days Have Found Us' - The End Is Near Julen

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Tue, 07/01/2025 - 22:59

The 'Strange Days' are over and have finally found Lopetegui, It appears that after all the drama, articles and many rumours, Lopetegui's lives have finally run out.

After weeks of complaints and consistent batterings, the Manchester City game looks like it was the final straw for the Spaniard.

These past two days have been hectic when it comes to the media, about every five minutes you're seeing something new, and as someone who currently has little to no access to WiFi, it is incredibly comical.

I woke up this morning to find out that Graham Potter wasn't happy with his contract offer from us and had now decided to join Everton. Yet, I was then met with a pleasant surprise a few hours later that we'd managed to agree on a deal. Oh, did I forget to mention that amidst all of this, we were also linked to Paulo Fonseca... again, as well as Christophe Galtier.

However, after all the dreadful rumours, it highly looks like Graham Potter will be the new manager of West Ham United. This is rumoured to happen within the next 24/48hrs, but nothing is guaranteed with West Ham. Sully is known to not like an interim manager so Lopetegui or Potter will be in charge of the game against Aston Villa, I sincerely hope, for the sake of fans, as well as Lopetegui himself, that he is put out of his misery and the club finally decide to release him of his duties.

Evidently, the club have its eyes set on sacking Lopetegui, they would just clearly like to have a replacement right away, which would probably be announced on the same day as the imminent corner flag post.

Unfortunately, sometimes these stories end like this: it was an ugly and bumpy ride. However, it is one that was sadly expected. The expectations weren't exactly high when Lopetegui joined; he was taking over a fanbase which was already very detached, but with what seemed like a great window, all was thought to be good and well. The season started rough, and it just got worse and worse from there.

Lopetegui had many moments where it all went wrong, yet the owners decided to delay the inevitable and keep pushing on with him. Just the nine goals conceded in two games and the threat of relegation looming upon us finally was enough for the board to reconsider.

The person behind the charge for Graham Potter is Karren Brady; she has been demanding the board to push for a deal to get him. Around a month ago, it was announced that Potter was interested in the job and was happy with a short-term contract, seemingly appearing to be the perfect candidate for the club and Sully himself.

Now, one slight problem in all of this... Lopetegui isn't actually sacked yet, despite Talksport suggesting TWICE that Lopetegui has been sacked, yet nothing seems to have been confirmed by the club yet.

The clubs had a dinner bonding meal planned. However, it was cancelled as Lopetegui was keen to know where he stood in all of this, which is another thing that needs to be mentioned.

No matter what you think of Lopetegui, it is what can only be described as disgraceful how the club are treating him. His father has recently passed away, he is currently in mourning and the club is treating him like he's been sacked already. Why not just sack him now and end the constant draining speculation? I think it is an utter disappointment how this is all going, IF he is to be sacked, I sincerely wish him the best in his future managing endeavours.

He may have been a poor manager for us, but he is still a human at the end of the day.

Sullivan and co showing themselves to be rank amateurs at running a business and proof were it needed that if it was not for Porn which basically sells itself Sullivan would never of made any money which then allowed him to basically go into the homes under the hammer business.

Interviewing managers because you are going to sack the current manager and all the media have let the cat out the bag not that it is a big secret.....then letting Loppy continue to take training just in case they cannot find or agree a deal with whoever shows just how shambolic they are....the man should of been paid up or put on gardening leave and have Noble and Keen and co step in to take the coaching for this week.

All that has happened now is air of uncertainty amongst the players who will be thinking will i be in the new mans plans or are we stuck with this joke of a man who nobody in football can work out what he is trying to do.

Others say we are a laughing stock but with this lot in charge isn't that really the norm for us.
