Stan The Man

Just wanted to say Stan Bowles RIP.

Growing up as a kid, there were certain footballers back in the early 70's. That had that x factor even back then. An evolution of mavericks if you like? Frank Worthington, Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles, Tony Currie, and of course the greatest of all George Best.

Even back then, they were different. Did different things on the pitch. Saw the game differently if you like. They were the reason I took my ball over the green every day after school.

Stan Bowles was one of the greats, like the rest in the group, Not exactly a role model, but my god what a player!!

Will Still Part Of Moyes Exit Plan!

Following yesterday 'statement of intent' from beleaguered Hammers manager David Moyes the minuet of the details are beginning to seep out and West Ham fans will be cock a hoop when they see how the bigger picture is being planned.

Moyes' statement was conspicuous by it's absence from the club's official site and the term 'subject to conditions' has reared its smoke and mirrors head! What does it mean exactly? Well Moyes has been given an escape route that will allow him to leave the club with dignity as oppose to the ignominy of being sacked or let go.

Fans hoping that Moyes will be gone before the end of the season are more than likely to be very disappointed as the Board clearly have absolutely NO intention of parting ways with their manage before the end of the season.

The club cannot be relegated and are still in with a shout for progressing in the Europa League, however mentioning Still will also remind fans of one of the prime candidates to take over from Moyes.

The Stade Reims club have accepted the situation with some style, Will Still has openly admitted that he is a West Ham supporter, and in a recent interviews claimed that he is open to managing a club in the Premier League, with West Ham his preferred destination.

That caused a bit of drama in France, but Stade Reims director Mathieu Lacour has now jumped to Still’s defence and claimed that he would actually be proud if his manager left them to take over the West Ham job, so that route could be clearly open.
Thomas Tuchel is most people's choice but he may well be holding out for a 'higher profile' position at Barcelona instead, although it would mean him working under very tight financial conditions.

Whatever way you look at it, Moyes 'last stand' speech was definitely 'Custeronian'! Full of intent but with little content, Will Still be part of Moyes' exit plan? You betcha! - Ed

Freiburg It Is..Again

Well, Hammers face up to old foes Freiburg in the knock out stages of the Europa League. The draw could have not been much kinder with the Irons missing out on some big fish left in the pond, Liverpool of course were handed the easiest tie but all in all Hammers fans have little to complain about, it must be because this was NOT a draw for a domestic competition!

West Ham will play away from home in the first leg of their respective tie on Thursday, 7 March, and at home for the second leg on 14 March.- Ed

20 Years Of Dreams

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Thu, 22/02/2024 - 19:46

West Ham fans have been in a state of disagreement for a long period, with inconsistent results looming over the club’s head for the past two years it has brought some concern amongst fans, players and the board of West Ham.

Recent rumours have suggested that Tim Steidten, West Ham’s technical director, has been the driving force behind the idea of having a new manager and starting a new project.

Numerous news outlets have suggested that Steidten could reportedly see a move away from East London and go to Liverpool to become a part of their ‘new era’ project, which could potentially be a crucial factor in whether he decides on who the future West Ham manager could be.

At the moment it has been reported that Tim Steidten has drawn up a manager replacement list, which currently consists of the following:

Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Will Still.

His preferred choice of the three is Tuchel after nearly joining him at Chelsea before his sacking, he is highly encouraging the board to hire him, especially after the latest Bayern Munich news which confirmed he will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Regarding David Moyes’ position, the board are reportedly “at a standstill”. The club do not feel the necessary need to sack Moyes as they would like to back him for the remainder of the season and could potentially offer him a new contract depending on the future results, however, they understand that if results are not up to scratch a replacement may have to come in.

Despite the numerous different opinions amongst fans, a consensus of views could fit into the saying:

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, the second best time is now.

In Football, we don’t often see a manager’s career at a single club last 20 years, but West Ham as a club who are beginning to establish themselves as a top club that can fight for European Football season to season, has to make the executive decision if they want to commit to David Moyes and hope he can consistently retain achieving European Football, or do they attempt to bring in another manager who’s more likely to achieve that and more.

In other words, does the club want to take a risk and plant a new tree, or do they want to keep the reliable oak tree and hope it maintains its leaves.

Time For Timmy To Earn His Corn

Much has been made of how much better certain aspects of the club are following Tiim Steidten’s appointment by David Sullivan.

Now is the time to see the German’s arrival fully bear it’s fruit. Virtually everyone connected with the club know that David Moyes’s tenure as manager is drawing to a painful yet inexorable end and as fate would have it, two of the stars required to expedite the Scot’s departure have recently aligned.

Thomas Tuchel is leaving his club Bayern at the end of the season and Brendan Rodgers looks to be on borrowed time at Celtic, so IF Steidten, who is a pal of TT’s, can weave his magic, then Hammers could be quids in.

Moyes could leave the Irons with his head held relatively high and Hammers could get the sort of progressive yet safe pair of hands manager who would male fans actually WANT to see the team play and the board would get a manger who knows his way around the Premier League and who could work closely with Steidten.

This is a once in a decade chance for the club to finally reach @nd surpass the glass ceiling that was so tantalisingly close a couple of seasons ago.

The club MUST pull out all the stops to bring Tuchel in, now is the time for Timmy to show his worth and go from Pearl diver to manager miner, it would retain the club’s top players and give the fans something to dream about that might NOT fade and die-Ed

So Thomas Tuchel is to leave Bayern at end of season. Could this be the new direction we crave? And is Sully even aware?

Last Chance Saloon

Continuing with our Western vernacular of the Three Wheels on my Wagon, we again find ourselves in 'Bandit' territory with 'Marshall Moyes' attempting to keep the press and public at bay from his fort in the east end.

Security has been tightened in Moyes' tower block ahead of possible insurgences by 'the disgruntled', of which there are many! Even the lovely Mrs Moyes has been instructed with and made aware of the defensive capabilities of a frozen Haggis taken straight out of the freezer should the outer perimeter defences be penetrated.

These are indeed tough times for the beleaguered Hammers manager, and yet those persistent voices in his head keep on telling him that a couple of 'big wins' will be all that it takes to calm the circling 'natives'.

Even the sound reduction in his Bentley SUV is not enough to blot out the anger of restless fans as they vent their anger in his direction. However is it Moyes' fault in its entirety that the fans are 'gunning' for him? Surely the board are at the very least a bit culpable for the events unfolding now?

If they had 'pulled the trigger' at the end of last season things could have worked out SO differently and for the good! Moyes could have walked away, head held high and breezed into the Celtic job just like that, Hammers could have moved on by appointing a new  'progressive' manager who could have worked with Tim Steidten and everything would have been relatively 'tickety boo' in the Hammers 'Happy Garden'.

Instead, whether by indecision or fear of being 'Pellegrinied' again, the club chose to stick with Moyes despite the dreadful football he had overseen, the drosness of which was only papered over by 'that night in Prague'.

There is no use in crying over spilled milk, other clubs have completely sussed out Moyesball, just as they did last season, hence the dramatic drop off in form, As others have mentioned, Lucas Paqueta is only ONE player and cannot be expected to drag the club out of the mire, although you can 'bet your house' that he will try!

The Board MUST learn and go hell for leather for a manager to take the club forward, and that manager is not the arrogant sod who sat before you in his post Notts forest presser! -LN

New Irons Manager?

ALL West Ham Sites Reading From The Same Book!

Submitted by nevillenixon on Sun, 18/02/2024 - 12:41

It is rare in this modern age that unity can be found among competitors, however Hammers latest recent downturn has UNITED ALL of the Irons media platforms from KUMB to Claret & Hugh, West Ham Till I die AND all the other newer sites that are available now.

The one thing everyone is saying irrespective of the site or the site's editor's agendas, is that Moyes really has to go! For too long fans have been sucked up by the 'success' drug, sixth here, seventh there in the League and of course the club's 1st silverware since 1980.

But let's face it the Cup was for winning Europe's equivalent to the Johnson's paint trophy or whatever it was called, and the League finishes were nearly TWO years ago! The dross being trotted out both at home and away is painful on the eye for fans brought up in an era where Brooking and Bonds graced the pitch, of course pre-ceeded by Sir Bobby, Sir Geoff and Sir Martin.

Apart from camping outside Sullivan's Theydon Le Bois mansion there appears little fans can do, but the point is that Sullivan does care! Believe it or not, Hammers majority shareholder is deeply hurt by what is written about him despite having a skin thicker than most Rhinos.

Those who think Sullivan is in it just to bleed the club dry and then sell it off are way off the mark. Owning a Premier League club is now either a vanity project or a canny investment for Hedge funds or Pariah states trying to 'Sportswash' their image.

Sullivan would make much more money elsewhere if he chose to do so whether fans agree or not!

So essentially, in the short term fans right across the board need to make their feelings known in whatever peaceful way that they can. Perhaps those with the clout might even listen?
After all, we are West Ham UNITED!- Ed
