Is The Feelgood Factor Back?

Well, it is for me.
I'm actually looking forward to this season, Now don't get excited, I'm not expecting a top four finish or a European chasing place in fact, I still think we could be in for a somewhat rough ride. A large chunk of my feelgood feelings is admittedly, Moyes has gone. God, that bloke depressed the life out of me before a ball had even been kicked (even Allardyce, Zola and Grant never got me down that much). But there is also a feeling emanating from the club of harmony. Lopetegui is no mug, his CV shows that, he seems to be working well with Sully and Tim and we have a plethora of signings that for the first time in years I actually couldn't predict a starting line up. When was the last time we had that problem? Never mind them, but also we have retained players who could also still be starters, if not, are genuinely players to look forward to seeing on the bench. Go on.... try and pick your team and see what you've got left over for the bench :D
True, I know virtually nothing about our new signings apart from what I read/hear from Wiki, You Tube and general headlines, but taking all I have written into account, for once in a long time this is a season I'm looking forward to. Yes it may go belly up, but Im quietly optimistic.
Shame the club have to spoil it with ticketing price issues.

Right Back Where We Belong!

While Manchester United are busy trying to flex their transfer muscles by attempting to send out a "we aren't going to be stiffed on transfer" message, Hammers are forging ahead in their player recruitment and have let the Mancs stew in their own juice over the will he or won't he? Aaron Wan-Bissaka to West Ham deal.

Wan-Bissaka hasn't helped himself any by insisting on a pay off from the Red Devils, but he is entitled to 'fight' for what he believes he deserves and probably resents (a) United trying to play silly buggers with their valuation of the player and (b) using him as a 'template' for new authoritarian Jim Ratcliffe 'hard man' tactics in negotiations to offset years of over paying for players.

The Irons newly rekindled interest in Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo will no doubt have been triggered by news that high earner Kurt Zouma is all but guaranteed to be moving to pastures new. Although the club will receive little or indeed nothing in transfer fees for their captain who is in the final year of his contract, the removal of his vast wages will give Hammers a bit of 'wiggle room' when it comes to FFP and PS regulations.

If Jean-Clair Todibo does arrive at Stratford and he is apparently flying in for a medical today, then Julen Lopetegui will need only to acquire a right back to complete his signings splurge. Of course Juventus might put a spanner in the works by upping their offer for the Frenchman but it seems that the central defender has had enough of being messed around by the Italian club and would prefer to deal with the no-nonsense Irons and Tim Steidten. - Oh Happy Days!- Ed

Irons Lame Ducks Must Go!

Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have been working wonders as they set about recruiting virtually an entirely new team, one area in particular that was in urgent need of an overhaul was Hammers creaking defence that 4th worst in the League.

The other area in need of improvement was the forward line with only an ageing but still useful Mikey Antonio and an incredibly overpaid Danny Ings who managed just FOUR Prem goals since he arrived from Villa in what must have been the deal of the century for the Villa directors of football!

News that Kurt Zouma will undergo a medical this week as a new Shabab Al-Ahli player cannot be more eagerly anticipated, his massive wages along with those of Danny Ings are truly eye watering.

The club is haemorrhaging £1/4 Million per week for the pair of them, that is an astonishing £13 Million per year! To put that figure in perspective it represents the income from 32,500 low band season ticket sales!

Initially, at the end of last season it was hoped that BOTH players could be shipped out, however due to their ludicrous wages each player has refused to take a pay cut as they intend winding down the last year of their respective contracts.

Ings was offered a transfer to his old club Southampton but refused to accept anything less than his collosal wage and Zouma made it very clear that he too wouldn't take a pay cut, both appeared to want to add to their bank accounts rather than playing football!

The combined salary of Ings and Zouma would pay for up to an astonishing FIVE players wages of many signed in the new J Lo and Super Tim era. With Zouma on his way it is to be hoped Ings might follow, the club is unlikely to receive ANY money at all from their exits and indeed the club might end up having to pay them off to get them off the wage bill.

It is to be hoped lessons have been learned and that the club is no longer seen as a retirement home for the sick and the lazy in the future! - Ed

Pre-Season Hunkun Bumpkin!

nevillenixon's picture

Amazingly there are certain media outlets who have jumped on the 'negative Hammers bandwagon', the most opinionated and ill informed of which have 'highlighted' the club's pre-season Stateside Cup results as an indicator as to how the coming season will pan out!

What Hunkum Bumkun that is, it seems to have escaped these supposed ITK's that J Lo and Super Tim Steidten are in the middle of a massive squad overhaul which is unfolding with increased intensity. The mixture of experienced players and ones for the future shows just how well things are panning out and how well the 'plan' is being instigated, some big money is being paid out as well as some canny no outlay signings that SHOULD leave fans rather excited ahead of the domestic kick off against Villa.

The betway Cup fixture against Celta Vigo will see a more represntative Irons team take to the field although the 'full fat' J Lo experience will most likely only appear agaginst Villa as opposed to Celta.

The last time Hammers won ALL of their pre season games was when Avram Grant was the manager! That season ended in ignominious relegation so to put any emphasis on pre season, especially during a comprehensive rebuild shows a complete lack of understanding.

Perceived wisdom is that a 'proper' Premier League team should be judged after a minimum of eight games into the season, so even if results don't go the Irons way initially patience and fervent support should be the order of the day.

We have been contacted by several fans who despite being season ticket holders had stopped going to see 'Moyes Ball' and are looking forward to a new era where front foot football is on the cards, that doesn't mean the manager has to be 'gung ho' with is set up, what it does mean is that the club now have a manager who 'respects' the 'elite' clubs but has no intention of cow towing to them!

The future is bright and is not based on a meaningless US Cup competition that only featured a handfull of players who will actually be starting games in the Premier League. More new arrivals are expected this week, it is a case of not if any, but how many will arrive, how refreshing? - Ed

How patient will you be?

Following defeats to Wolves and Palace in the USA i have read a number of reactions across many sites and also on you tube and maybe it is an age thing but talk about going over the top with people calling the new manager Flopetigu how we are going to be lucky to stay up the football is the same as under Moyes the players are all crap.

Blimey talk about going overboard......if they took time and looked at the line ups do they think that this is the starting eleven? of course it will not be...do these people not understand that a lot of the main players had been away on international duties this summer and need a break albeit a short one.....the manager if anything has had a real chance to see in the flesh and not on paper or video players that there are question marks over....some he is not sure he wants but a chance to be proved wrong maybe or just have his thoughts proved right.

Many and sorry if it offends some by being age related but many younger fans so quick to wanting it to happen today right now not in six months a years time.....integrating new players and a new style will take time and like it or not you have to have patience and noticing the how the team dropped to a low block out of muscle memory if you will then this shows much work is going to be needed but with players who have not been under the influence of Moyes coming in and our main players Bowen Kudus Pacman Alvarez they have the ability to take on board the challenge a new style and way of playing that is being put into play by the new manager and coaches.

So a little patience is warranted though i do not expect it in all honesty...if we lose to Villa the media will have a field day and some fans will be moaning that we should never of got Jlo in "he's not up to the job" they will shout for all to hear but seriously as the old saying goes Rome was not built in a day so give the man a chance.

Better football is really what we all want to see not bus parked handbrake on every week home or away so be patient for a while and give the manager and the team a chance to breathe and we will be rewarded......in saying that though if he starts JWP and Soucek as our midfield i will join many in shouting from the rooftops lol....but seriously come on guys give the man a chance.

180º Irons 4 Red Hot Transfers With More Due!

Shell shocked Hammers fans are reeling in disbelief as their club are finally mixing it with the big boys and getting their man, not once, twice or even three times!

In an incredibly pleasant change of direction the club DIDN'T reveal its real transfer kitty and stealthily proceeded to go about its business in a thoroughly professional and effective manner!

Virtually ALL the boxes that needed ticking have been and a few more besides, these are indeed exciting times to be a Hammer. No smoke and mirrors, just clever manipulation with a few left field manoeuvers that sees the club well set for the oncoming season.

When was the last time that the team could approach the beginning of the season with a cohesive and workable squad already in place? We can't remember and would suggest very few others can!

For once it is a matter of discussing those deals that haven't yet gone through in addition to those that have, one after one 'Diver' Steidten and J Lo are delivering on the promise to rebuild the ageing and imbalanced squad previously assembled by Davids Moyes and Sullivan.

Fair play to the club's chairman and majority individual share holder David Sullivan who finally found it within himself to acquiesce control of transfers having apparently now recovered from being severely burned by Manuel Pellegrini.

New signings Guilherme, Killman and Summerville are shortly to be joined by Niclas Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez and to cap it all negotiations with Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka are reaching a positive outcome!

Blimey O'Reilly things are starting to look up, of course it will take a while to integrate all the new players, but what a nice problem to have? All these new arrivals will mean one or two players will have to be shipped out, in an ideal world that would include Danny Ings, Maxwell Cornet and Kurt Zouma, but for now Hammers fans can just rejoice in East London's brave new world! - Ed

One Player

Easy to pick your best XI but this is harder. No discussions. No, it's between A, B or C. No "football from different era's" etc. Just put the name of the one player you'd happily want back in the team today. I'll start :-

Bryan "Pop" Robson

Leppers of football?

Submitted by Enfieldhammer on Sun, 28/07/2024 - 20:58

Reading several sites and news outlets. A lot of potential targets are not interested in coming to West Ham. I know we no longer have the lure of European football but these linked players want to play in Serie A?
For me. Italian football is crap. Maybe these players are being honest and think the standard of the Premier League is too much for them. Or they know that West Ham is run by a clown.
