Has anybody read Karen Brady's Letter to WHU fans she seems completely oblivious to the concessions problem, and I think that she expects this problem to go away. As Neville wrote about Danny Inngs and the waste of money for Calvin Phillips shows how out of touch she is. Affordable football- looking after the academy, we are going in the right direction with WHU women's team- 6th, three seasons ago then 8th now there 11th so I don't know what she's on about -completely wired up wrong, or perhaps she doesn't care all the sun she had out in Arabia has gone to her head -no wonder she could not find any investors. It has been estimated that cutting the concessions will save the club £600,000 but even if this amount is £1milloin, investing in family entertainment is a better investment than a lot of players that West Ham have lost money on, Ajeji, Wiltshire,Nasri, Vlassic, and Haller to name but a few. I think That the youth are the best return, because they are the future of West Ham, My father, and my kids are all West Ham fans, and my granddaughter who is 4 will, if she supports Spuds she lives in the shed,-Simples. This is how it has always been it used to be a family club, but not now apparently. Grandads buy programs and food and drink I will buy my Nephew's merchandise from the shop just like the tourists, and if we got relegated he would still be wearing it- but the tourists will be at Chelsea or Arsenal won't, they will buy a matchday scarf have a hot dog and that will be it a souvenir of the day - they are not true fans. So it looks like the clearing out of over 66's and under 18's out of the Lower tier is imminent and I will have to give renewing my season ticket a lot of thought. The board will be relying on supporters like me who have supported West Ham all their lives, I will always be a West Ham fan until I die. I enjoyed watching live football looks like this is going to be taken away unless I can Find the extra cash that it will cost me and my granddaughter, which will not be easy in todays day and age, so much for affordable football. I was watching my team before Lady Brady was even born. Let's hope that all this greed stops Brady thinks she is a businesswoman then let's see it, what's the explanation? why do you need to kick dedicated fans in the teeth over £600,000 When you have wasted millions over the past few years it's about time the board changed its greedy attitude and started thinking about its Supporters NOT its customers. Tim has what he wished for a manger who will happily work alongside him and and let him do his job but with the Euros dragging on and the new man wanting our business done early you start to wonder if Tim is struggling a bit?
Of course the silly number of players we are linked with is just gossip and site driven talk but you do have to wonder where and when will our next signing be.
Full backs centre backs wingers strikers all said to be required but Tim is struggling to move certain players out and i am sure he is under pressure from Sullivan to make sure we are not weighed down with big wage players until the likes of Ings/Zouma/Aguered can be moved out which is proving very challenging right now.
So Tim like pundits and fans of other clubs constantly hurled at West Ham fans last season "be careful what you wish for" as all eyes are squarely and firmly set on you.
Let's get one thing straight, no one made Danny Ings sign for West Ham on ludicrously high wages, he was offered an unbelievably massive pay deal by Rob Newman and David Moyes in order to 'entice' him away from Villa for an eye watering £11 Millionon a salary of around £120,000 per week!
Ings CANNOT be blamed for accepting the offer and neither can Villa be blamed for accepting such a ludicrously high transfer fee, the fact is his transfer was a 'right royal cock up' of the highest order!
The club are now STUCK with a player who contributes absolutely zilch and who is on at least double the pay of almost anyone else in the entire squad. It has now become unfashionable to criticise David Moyes' tenure at the club, with people (not season ticket holders) lauding his achievements and highlighting that one glorious night when the club won it's first major European trophy in over 50 years.
Moyes has recently eulogised about his 'love' for West Ham and how proud he is of what he did during his two spells as manager. Of course the elephant in the room is some of 'dithering Dave's' questionable transfer business, for every Jarrod Bowen there was a Jordan Hugill!
The signing of Danny Ings ranks right up there with those of Hugill and Vlasic, all represented an astonishing loss of money that has hamstrung future transfers and now it appears that Danny Ings is going to do a 'Winstone Bogard' and just stay put at the club while picking up £6 Million a year in wages!
Recently there were media reports of Ings returning to Southampton with a £6 Million fee mentioned, however it now seems that the £6 Million is how much Hammers have to PAY Ings to get him out of the door by ripping up his contract!
Only at West Ham hey? It is to be hoped beyond hope that now Tim Steidten is working in tandem with Julen Lopetegui that such costly errors are entirely eradicated, bit in the short term Hammers' already measly kitty has taken another kicking. - Ed
Seriously, Is it just me who is in total despair at the dross this man is serving up with this England team? I'm on a couple of England fan forums on Facebook and I am incredulous at the amount of praise he is getting from fans on getting us this far, Really? Never mind the piss easy qualifying group to get here, he has the easiest route to the final and is STILL making it excruciating to watch.
After a whole season of Moyesball I really was hoping for a bit of light entertainment. Spain for me as winners.
The proof will be in the pudding of course but with the old manager gone Jlo wheeled in many fans were feeling a bit low after suffering with that style of football(if you can call it that)for far to long....but suddenly a couple of signings to date-freebie not included!-a press conference with smiles and a laugh and a manager and Director if football who seemingly get along has clearly lightened the mood for fans.
Of course it is a big charm offensive to try to get the fans back onside whilst Sullivan and Brady try to penalise the young and the old by parking them in the gods if they wish to renew at concession price.
But for me like many fans it will be about style of play and seeing the side on the front foot at home and not sitting deep as was the case......it is a big season a season of rebuilding and settling in but lets sit and enjoy watching the new man and players that have arrived and those that have been kept putting a smile back on our faces and making watching us a more enjoyable event and not like a rainy monday morning!
West Ham are closing in on the double signing of Wolves skipper Max Kilman and Nice's Jean-Clair Todibo. The club have been locked in talks with Wolves for nearly three weeks and the signing of Kilman is seen as yet another sign of David Sullivan's endorsement of the 'Stig & Loopy' show that he put together.
Majority share holder David Sullivan is willing to pull out all of the stops in order to reunite Kilman with Lopetegui, a move seemed firmly aimed at gratifying please his new head coach.
West Ham were hoping their initial 'low ball' bids would be accepted, but were forced to return with a better 'final offer' for Kilman that WAS accepted by Wolves beleived to be in the region of £43 Million with £8 Million of that in add ons.
This transfer has been a long time in the making and one that has obviously been researched in great depth, after all, £43 or £38 Million is a lot of money Davey (in joke from Hugh Grant's prime minister portrayal from Love Actually)
Lopetegui made it clear he wanted Kiilman and 'Schnell Steidten' went out and got him, have Hammers paid too much? Not really, the 27 year old Captain may have come from Maidenhead originally but so what? Kilman is a leader on and off the pitch who could take over the captain's arm band with aplomb and unless the 'Hammers Injury Curse' descends on him has a good injury record.
Kilman is another home grown player and will be a welcome addition to the squad with the added advantage that he will be available for pre-season!- Ed
Well we keep banging on the door but Wolves not budging so we must have other targets but do we? this seems like a transfer we are going to have to make as the new manager really wants the player and Wolves no it and so will not budge on there valuation even though that is vastly inflated.
So what you me and everybody else would like to know is what exactly is in the pot as i am certain that would of been the first question Jlo would of asked before signing and if IF we do go back with a £40mill+ offer then that must show us we have a bigger pot to play with than what is being muted.
with the upteen players we are like every other club being linked with this week ahead has to see some movement as players will soon be returning and Jlo made it clear he wanted business done early so he can have a full pre season to assess all the players for the season ahead.
So will Kilman come or is he just one of those names that we are always linked with?
FFP has always been an anomaly to football fans other than those who support teams sponsored or owned by sovereign states, no one seems to know precisely how teams like Man City, PSG and Real Madrid seem to be able to spend limitless amounts of money whereas their own teams are subject to 'third degree' scrutiny over their finances.
There appeared to be more loopholes in FFP than a knitting pattern with implementation of the rules seemingly very unfair, then PSR was introduced which has muddied the waters further! So Whats The Difference Between PSR & FFP?
Profit and sustainability rules relate to club finances regarding player purchases and sales over the course of a financial year, whereas Financial fair play relates to clubs' overall finances spanning FIVE years. Is that clearer? well it might be to the various football associations and governing bodies but to the 'everyday' fan they are an anathema that is not understandable nor acceptable!
Recent point deductions handed out to Everton and Nottingham Forest and those pending against Leicester City seem totally unfair when looking at the expenditure of other clubs who appear to operate with financial impunity.
Keeping on the safe side of PSR & FFP always seems to handicap teams who do comply, teams like West Ham United for example! Of course it puts the owners into a no win, but win win situation. Despite pressure from fans they cannot spend outside of the fiscal limitations laid out, this leaves an ever growing gap between 'mid table' teams like the Irons and 'elite' teams like City.
Is there anything Hammers can do to change the status quo? Well actually there is, money earned for share sales CAN be used to finance the club's activities and to offset the relatively meagre money received from season ticket sales. With basically the cheapest season tickets in the Premier League the club regularly faces a fiscal black hole when trying to match fellow London rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and 'Tottingham'.
Essentially the club sold itself short when moving from the Boleyn to the Stratford Stadium by UNDER pricing the season ticket allocation, fearing that they might have a half full 'white elephant'. The consequences of the cheap ticketing prices is manifest at the beginning of EVERY season and will continue to do so, if Hammers didn't have a 'deal of the century' rental arrangement the situation would be far worse or virtually untenable!
So what is the answer? In the short term, some clever manipulation of loan deals and swap deals could get the club through, but eventually nothing short of additional incoming investment will solve the problem. Until then the club will be forced to enter negotiations similar to the one they are currently trying with Southampton which will see Flynn Downes being swapped for Kyle Walker-Peters, not a perfect resolution but at least a workable deal.
It is a pity Danny Ings couldn't have been thrown into the mix, then it really could have been lovely jubbly! -Ed
