Is It Strikers Or Moyes' Fault?
Scurrilous rumours have been 'leaked' to the Press recently regarding Hammers £35 Million striker Gianluca Scamacca, apparently Dino Moyes is 'unhappy' with the imposing 6'5" striker. Perhaps it is because Scamacca stands head and shoulders over the visibly ageing Moyes?
Funnily enough another tall striker also incurred Dino's displeasure, record signing Sebastien Haller was deemed 'not fit for purpose' by Moyes and was moved on at enormous financial loss. The Frenchman went on to break the Champions League scoring record while at Ajax before moving to Germany.
Did Haller disappoint Moyes or was it because Sebastien wasn't a Moyes signing? OK so Haller might not have been a Moyes signing, but Scamacca WAS a Dino signing! Having waited the best part of two years 'hunting' for the right man it was the Hammers manager who sanctioned the move, or did he?
Fans were led to believe it was Moyes who would be at the helm when it came to transfers as he looked to build the club using the Red Bull principle of youth and talented newcomers, well that hasn't happened has it? The mass exodus of 'Red Bull' type youngsters has gone from a trickle to a flood under Moyes' tenure.
A forward thinker Moyes is NOT! He has proven to be as recalcitrant with his answers as Sam Allardyce was in his heyday, except Big Sam didn't pretend to like using youth players whereas the incumbent Scot eludes to his 'liking' of certain youngsters, however most know they don't stand an earthly of progressing to the first team which is why so many talented youngsters have left already and will be followed by many more if Moyes remains at the helm.
Imaging this Board room discussion "Well David, we have backed you in the market but both the main striker we paid good money for is now incredibly disenfranchised and can't wait to jump ship, not only that but the other striker you wanted and we went out and got for you doesn't exactly fit your 'young and hungry' template does he. After all, a 30 year old injury prone player who looks like he is over 50 starting games sends a particular message to some of our own young and hungry players. That message appears to be that they need to leave the club to be given a fair crack of the whip."
So is Scamacca that bad you may ask yourself, just like you did when Sebastien Haller was being played as a lone striker. Both accomplished strikers were used to playing as part of a two up front formation, both were then forced to play as a lone striker under Dino Moyes and the result? Both players floundered around showing brief glimpses of the great players they had the potential to be, but ploughing a lonely trough dug deeper by Dino's stubbornness and reluctance to alter HIS WAY of doing things, despite being out of date and far too rigid.
Is West Ham so wealthy as a club that it can afford to lose £20 Million on one striker and face losing another £15 Million on his replacement? Perhaps Moyes knows, because the fans don't, seemingly neither does the Board! - Ed
