  • We need players with pace

    Players like Cresswell, Dawson, Fabianski and Antonio are getting on a bit and we can all see the faults more and more so they need to be bench players at best. Our biggest problem is our leaky defence which puts every other player under pressure. When we where playing well it didn’t matter if they scored first because the confidence was there that we would score especially at home but now as soon as they score we drop our heads and start passing sideways or backwards leaving players like Benny, Bowen and Scammacca out of the equation. Even Decs seems to pass the ball more backward then forward lately. Hopefully Aguerd will be back for Leeds but he will need help and until Zouma is back Dawson will have to do but he seems to have his mind on going home and is not what he’s been for us the last couple of seasons. Against Brentford Moyes dropped Soucek and put Paqueta in his place which is where he plays for Brazil, he’s not a number 10 and until we conceded we played ok.
    Looking at last season the shit set in early, Antonio kept flying off to Jamaica and lost his form but Bowen came good, Cresswell kept getting beat by anyone that wanted to get past him and as we all know got himself sent off and suspended and we lost our chance to play Champions league, Rice decided he wanted to go forward more so to cater to him Soucek got told to stay back and he lost his way, Coufal had a hernia because of what should have been a sending off and hasn’t been the same since. We are going to lose Ashby because he can’t get a game, Moyes needs to play the best player in their natural position instead of catering to their whims and things will turn around. We have the players to do it if they can get a chance.

    Unless results improve dramatically over the next three Premier League games against those facing the relegation trap door as well, starting with fellow strugglers Leeds United on Wednesday, a new manager WILL be brought in with the clever money being on the 'muder ball' specialist Marcelo Bielsa arriving on an initial six month contract.

    The Argentine born manager is famous for his no nonsense training sessions they make those of the man he would replace, David Moyes, look pedestrian! The Hammers squad have got used to relentless running during training which many now see as an outdated mode of training, instead many 'forward thinking' managers prefer to concentrate on short sharp recovery runs which are more aligned to the needs of a player during the 90 or so minutes of a game, after all footballers are there to play football, NOT run mini marathons!

    Bielsa or 'Bielzibub' as he was often named while at Hammers next opponents Leeds Utd, is renowned for his intense training sessions that were given the 'murder ball' moniker by players and staff alike. Players who couldn't reach his desired level of fitness found themselves training with the youth players or on the transfer list, or BOTH!

    With the 2nd oldest squad in the Premier League there will be several Hammers players anxiously waiting for the new manager's arrival and hoping it is NOT Bielsa, because IF he is appointed things will be subject to seismic changes starting at the club's 'Goose Green' training ground. The likes of Aaron Cresswell in particular will NOT be looking forward to being 'dug out' by the fiery Argentine, despite being a loyal servant to the club it is time for 'Cressy' to retire or move on because time and time again he gets caught out through his lack of pace.

    Jarrod Bowen is currently 'employed' on taking corners from the right hand side of the pitch whereas he should be in the box to pick up scraps or even be a target man, because Cresswell lacks the pace to recover the ball if it is pinged out of defence on what would be the wrong side of the pitch for him, a younger fitter player COULD make up the distance, alas Cresswell can't anymore.

    Picking onCresswell is a touch unfair because he is merely at the head of the queue of 'footballing pensioners' at the club, Bielsa wouldn't think twice about using some of the 'energetic' youth players that would be at his disposal. Of course Moyes MIGHT survive, but don't put your house on it! - Ed

  • Mark's 1st Day Dilemma

    Mark Noble officially rejoins West Ham today as director of football, as he takes up his new role 'Mr West Ham' must be thinking what he has let himself in for. Noble's love of the club is well known, but even he must be slightly overawed by the task ahead of him.

    With the exception of results in European competitions Hammers results have been appalling and worryingly are on a downward spiral that seems to have no end, injuries and loss of form have contributed the dire situation the club now finds itself in, with relegation looking a real possibility unless things change very quickly.

    The problem is how can things be turned around? In the past the answer to a poor run of form was that there were insufficient 'quality' players available to choose from, that cannot be said of the current squad who for various reasons are not the sum of their total, in other words the club HAS SOME TRULY SUPERB PLAYERS IN IT'S RANKS, BUT THEY JUST AREN'T PERFORMING!

    Whether he likes it or not David Moyes IS to blame, it seems he is unable to work with top players and is more used to making the best out of a bad lot, as previously mentioned that may have been the case in the past but NOT now Moyes' inability to adapt has been exposed, no longer can he lament what might have been, instead he is busy blaming everyone and everything except himself.

    Given the results of the last 18 months, with the exception of the European Cup games, it is surprising Moyes didn't get the bullet ages ago. He is surviving on goodwill from David Sullivan who still feels a little guilty for 'bouncing' Moyes after his first spell as manager by appointing Manuel Pellegrini in Moyes' stead.

    Defeat at Leeds will surely see the 59 year old Scot given the heave ho with Mark Warburton taking the reins most likely assisted by Mark Noble, a role he would be reluctant to take but would for the good of the club. The hunt for a new manager began BEFORE the World Cup, but those candidates who were available were not convinced that the London Stadium is the place to be, especially Pochetino and Tuchel.

    David Moyes transformed the club's fortunes, but it is time for someone with renewed energy to take over. If Moyes is kept on there is a distinct possibility the club would lose it's Premier Leaguer status, that would have a knock on effect that could take YEARS to redress.

    Our message to David Moyes is: You have done brilliantly, but bow is the time to move on before your legacy is destroyed, it is not as if you need the money is it?

    David Moyes' tenure at West Ham United is about to reach it's nadir as he has been summoned to Theydon Bois, where majority shareholder David Sullivan lives.

    Having already been given the dreaded 'vote of confidence, tomorrow's meeting in the leafy part Essex is more likely than not going to be when Moyes gets the 'tin tack'.

    14 wins in 44 Premier League games has made Moyes' position as manager untenable, the stats don't lie and they spell out one thing, RELEGATION! If the board don't act now then they will have the 'joy' of witnessing the biggest crowds the Championship has ever seen, assuming of course that fans don't desert the club in their droves.

    Having the fifth highest average attendance in WORLD football will count for absolutely nothing should the unthinkable happen and the club gets relegated, showing loyalty to a manager who has achieved plenty and served you well is admirable, but persisting with a loser when all around can see the bigger picture is bordering on being reckless to say the least, some would say it borders on being downright irresponsible or stupid, or both!

    David Moyes HAS worked wonders at West Ham, especially during his '2nd coming', but his style of football has been found out and he quite clearly doesn't have a workable plan B. The excuse of bedding in the new players is wearing about as thin as a tory party internal investigation.

    All the good work Moyes has done, there has been plenty, is in danger of being undone as a result of a catastrophic run of results that cannot be blamed on anyone except the manager himself. Losing his best two coaches hasn't helped matters, both Pearce and Irvine were driving forces on the training ground AND during games, without both of them the team looks completely different in playing style and commitment.

    A fresh start is desperately needed and when the Board do pull the trigger there is just about enough time to rescue the situation, although things should have been done during the World Cup instead of now. Cresswell and Fabianski have both been great servants for the club but are clearly unable to cope with the hustle and bustle of the Premier League, the same can be said for Ogbonna, Antonio and many more of the current set up, time for a change!

    Make no mistake, Hammers ARE in a RELEGATION DOGFIGHT and will do remarkably well to maintain their Premier League status, a state of affairs that will 'freak out' the Kretin in the Sky as well as Sully and Gold bearing in mind the not inconsiderable funds made available for summer transfers, for once a Hammers manager WAS backed to the hilt. Being a results driven business the Premier League takes NO prisoners and unfortunately Moyes will have to fall on his sword, it was inevitable given the investment that was made on his behalf, yes there have been injury issues but almost every club has to deal with similar situations.

    Time to move forward, hopefully the Board will have anticipated the sequence of events and will have a replacement manager lined up, some are suggesting Mark Warburton might take over assisted by Mark Noble, but the club should be aiming for more than just survival, Thomas Tuchel would be a great appointment but he will be wary of past interference by the board and may not want to take on such a troubled club. The other 'suspect' is Rafa Benitez, but having already rejected the club even though he had agreed to become manager in order that he could manage Real Madrid when they came a calling.

    Something had to give, but the club's decisions over the next 24 Hours could have a significant long term impact for many years to come, so they have to make the correct decision, good luck on that one! - Ed

  • Why has it gone so wrong?

    To say we were on the crest of a wave for the last 2 seasons is an understatement, Ant?, well we thought all our goalscoring problems were over ,the Chech twins ?, their worth was in the ascendancy, they were getting better every week, specially Souchec, Benrahma?,showed some real class but never consistently so, Fornals, heart of a lion but again not consistently, Bowen proved to be a little light weight ,shows brilliant skills but cant stand up in a tackle, Cress ,dropped off a cliff ,Dawson?, one bright spark in the whole mess ,Kehrer seems to be having a hard time adjusting to the prem ,as for our star imports ?,Paqueta, Scammca,and Aguerd ,one has the west ham injury curse and the other 2 dont seem to bothered in playing for west ham .
    Its a real shame going back to the bad old days when we starred relegation in the face , there was allways the optimistic
    View that we would soon bounce back, this time its different for two main reasons ,one the premiership has moved on, the top teams are playing out of this world stuff and even the also rans are showing signs of changing the way they play from a long ball game to a more competative style .
    And two is this stadium of ours ,if we go south now there is no way we will fill this place ,can you imagine the place half full ?,doesnt bare thinking about ,and of course our saving light Dec will be gone ,how long would it be until the weeds start to grow on the concrete in between the seats .
    We have to do something now before this awful cenario kicks in,
    Moyes isnt the man anymore , hes too old and set in his old fashioned ethos ,who is ? ,anyones guess,one things for sure if we dont get our collective arses moving soon it will be beyond us ,and we will surley be doomed .

    Just heard the sad news,I was 5 when I first watched a world cup - 1970! Went to my first westham game the year before so Bobby Moore was already my hero but Pele was an amazing footballer in an amazing team....for me Pele was arguably the greatest player of all time
